Welcome to George W. GibbsJr. Elementary School
This bright yellow sign greeted all the visitors to George Gibbs School yesterday for the Open House. You might notice there seems to be a lot of penguins. The penguin was chosen as the school's mascot, mostly due to the fact that George Gibbs was the first African-American to go to Antarctica. George Gibbs also was recently honored, thanks in part to the efforts of Glenn M. Stein. According to an October 9, 2009 article in Rochester Post-Bulletin, Mr. Stein submitted a request for that Gibbs be put on the map. So, down in Antarctica you will now find Gibbs Point.
